D. Gorlon’s Stowaway

Gorlon has made a little place where his owlbear companions can’t come. He sleeps in this spot on the ground. Ther is a black altar with a red crystal floating gently above it. There are some supplies in his backpack, and two chests. On a small table, a large scroll lies apparent.

  • The floating crystal can be used to perform a 10-minute ritual to find contact with the Curse Hag Granny Martha. It can only be done by a spellcaster familiar with the Sending spell. Its function can be determined by succeeding on a DC 14 Arcana check
  • On the large scroll, a plan to make the forest more “hospitable” to the hag is obvious. On the map, the location of the hag’s hut is marked. It is on a 2-hour distance from here to the northern side, although due to the hag’s influence, the terrain has caused that time to go up to 4 hours away.
  • In the northern chest, too many clothes are stuffed inside.
  • The southernmost chest is trapped and contains an encypted scroll (DC 17 Investigation) containing a way to undo the curse. The trap can be spotted with a successful DC 13 Perception check and a successful DC 13 Sleight of Hand and the lock requires a DC 14 Dexterity (Thieves Tools) check to be opened. When the chest is opened without the key, it spouts a purple gas. Each creature within area D must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or fall asleep for one hour or until a creature uses its action to shake it awake.
Undoing the Curse

The curse is not undone by a simple Remove Curse spell, but requires a little more attention. A creature that knows the Remove Curse spell can use Wyrmflower and perform a ritual version of the Remove Curse spell to undo the curse.

Wyrmflower

Wyrmflower is abundant in this cave, which is why Gorlon had to be in it. It is both an ingredient for the curse, as well as the cure.

F. Owlbear Nest

Few corpses lie in this part of the cave. A large nest is protected by two large owlbears, who are both under the effect of the Curse of Rage, although they won’t attack Gorlon by the hag’s wishes. They attack on sight.
In the nest, the following can be found

  • 2 owlbear eggs, worth 2000g each.
  • A successful DC 15 investigation check reveals a small pouch, containing 17 gold and 33 silver.
