Hidden in plain sight, a crystalshard mimic waits for new carriers. The mimic, now turned crystal eating monster has had an odd transformation due to the magic of Hyxia. It has adapted to a diet consisting solely of crystal and as a result, its intelligence grew rampant. The slow creature now uses its shapechanging ability to barter their service in trade for chunks or crystal.
Normal mimics are able to adapt to their surroundings by performing mimesis. This is not a viable strategy for the crystalshard mimic; which has gotten its name from its diet. It alone is unable to break off chunks of crystal and thus has to resort to scavenging. This is not complemented by its abilities, and thus the mimic was forced to adapt further. It now barters its use as a shapechanging item in trade for shards. The nasty reputation of mimics make this a hard task. If denied, it will attempt to force a creature into its servitude with its Charming Suggestion.
Some crystalshard mimics work together to set up entire villages. The mimic’s work together to make settlements, from which they sell items they have scavenged. The buying price of course being counted in crystal shards. Due to their intelligence, these mimics employ tactics to ensure their own safety.
Some larger mimics grow larger in size after consuming large quantities of crystal shards. These mimics tend to transform into bridges or other large structures. Creature’s that wish to pass through one of these mimic’s domain will most likely be asked crystal fragments as toll.
